Privacy policy
Draft wording — to be reviewed by the business owner before launch. It is not legal advice.
This explains how Martyn Peters, trading as SHIFTER UK ("we") uses personal data. We are the data controller. Contact us at bookings@shifteruk.co.uk.
What we collect
- Your name, email, phone number and collection address.
- Photos of the items you want collected, and details about access.
- Booking, payment status and collection records (we do not see or store card details — Square processes payments).
- Technical data such as IP address, used to prevent spam and abuse.
Why we use it
- To quote for, arrange, carry out and document your collection (performance of a contract).
- To keep waste and financial records we are legally required to keep (legal obligation).
- To prevent fraud and abuse of the booking system (legitimate interests).
- Marketing only if you opt in; you can opt out at any time.
Who we share it with
Service providers who process data for us: Supabase (database and file storage), Square (payments), our email provider (transactional email), and our website host. Where these process data outside the UK, appropriate safeguards are in place. We never sell your data.
How long we keep it
- Photos of items: deleted once the collection is complete and any dispute period has passed [owner to set, e.g. 90 days].
- Unsubmitted photo uploads: deleted after 24 hours.
- Booking, payment and receipt records: 6 years (tax and accounting).
- Waste transfer notes: at least 2 years, as required by law.
Your rights
You can ask for a copy of your data, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it where we are not required to keep it. You can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
